Hello and welcome to MainLine by PreTrain!

I am Hamish Withington. I’m a qualified train driver and train driver trainer – I'm still actively driving trains as well as training and assessing new drivers as a paid professional train driver even now, after over 16 years of experience since I first qualified as a driver.

I am the creator of this program and I will also be your trainer throughout this series of lessons on becoming a trainee train driver here in Australia.

I created this program to help people prepare for the intensive learning ahead of them as they pursue the training necessary to become a train driver, once they are a trainee.

The idea of the information in this series, is to make the learning ahead a lot easier to absorb, because you will have a better than average foundation of knowledge to enter the classroom with. This program is especially for those with no prior railway knowledge or exposure.

Throughout the MainLine program, in part 1 you'll learn all about;

• The typical path for the theory & practical training delivery
• An introduction to more advanced railway terminology
• Introductions tot he concepts of safeworking, signalling, track infrastructure, rollingstock, different roles of other staff and more
• The qualification you'll be aspiring to gain, the processes of assessment & graduation
• Life after driving - some career options that may be available to advance or laterally move your driving career

Throughout part 2 of the Mainline program, we discuss;

• Some wisdoms & safety attitudes that are wise to consider in your first year as a qualified driver
• Industrial relations matters, unions, management and you
• Ways to build on your skills, knowledge and employability
• General life planning & concepts that your new career can help you establish
• Summary, conclusion & how to get extra assistance if you need it.
